History
The WSMA initially established the “Washington Monitored Treatment Program” with both the legislative and financial foundation to function as an independent, not for profit, organization.
In 1993, Lynn R. Hankes, MD was appointed as the Medical Director and the name was changed to the “Washington Physicians Health Program”. The Washington Physicians Health Program became one of the model programs in the country under the direction of Dr. Hankes from 1993 to 2006.
In April of 2006, Michael R. Oreskovich, MD succeeded Lynn R. Hankes, MD as the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer.

To facilitate the rehabilitation of healthcare practitioners who have physical or mental conditions that could compromise public safety and to monitor their recovery.

Vision
WPHP continues to be a leader in program design, research, and prevention of impairment. The program is innovative in identifying at-risk behaviors of healthcare practitioners that could interfere with their ability to ensure the ongoing health and well being of themselves and, therefore, protect the patients that they serve. At all times, WPHP assures confidentiality, to the maximum extent provided by law, to maintain trust and credibility with clients and stakeholders.
